Good Friday, 2 April 2010, was a traumatic and fateful day for soldier Ralf Rönckendorf during a mission in Afghanistan. On that day, Ralf lost three of his comrades and his eyesight due to a severe injury. Afterwards, nothing was the way it had been before. However, for many years Ralf did all he could do to fight his way back into life – his new life.

Since the 90s, he has had a strong love for electronic music, especially for classic EBM which was, then, heavily influenced by bands like Nitzer Ebb, Die Krupps or DAF from the 80s. He founded the project ENDZUSTAND based on his own lyrics and compositions which were heard for the first time in 2009 on an underground EBM compilation before that fateful day in 2010 turned Ralf’s life upside down.

In order to come to terms with his fate and to tell his story, Ralf began to write autobiographic lyrics and to compose the fitting kind of music in the following years. Due to his loss of sight he learnt to equip and operate his own studio with analogue synthesizers and modern control software. Bit by bit, he found a way to express himself musically.

Thus, the project ENDZUSTAND (transl. FINAL CONDITION) came into being almost solely single-handedly as well as 11 personal and relentless songs which make up the concept album “Werk des Krieges” (transl. Work Of War). The lyrical clarity goes along with straightforward EBM rhythms and sequencers shaping a solid foundation for a hard as well as powerful sound. Achim Dressler from the WELLENCOCKTAIL Tonstudio, Hanover, is responsible for the genre-typical mix and mastering who provided the songs with the required push and club-suitability.

First of all, the single “Hass” (transl. Hate) will be released on September 11th together with a video clip and international remixes, followed by the album “Werk des Krieges” on October 9th via the label Echozone. Further remix singles and a special EP, which is scheduled for April 2021, are in the works.

While these are good remixes, they are ironically stripped down to usual EBM trappings. It lacks a LOT of wild experimentation with arrangements, bombastic use of high dynamic range capabilities and Mariana trench's deep use of sequencers which made Front 242 a Sistine Chapel of the genre. Nevertheless, it's an enjoyable EBM Fix ►For You◀ I do appreciate visceral energy on certain songs which added another layer to the originals.
